On bill of particular issue of interest to faculty is described below by Noreen Light, Associate Director of Academic Affairs and Policy at the Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC).
On Tuesday, January 21st, Representatives Seaquist and Hale introduced legislation that would provide for formal legislative adoption of the educational attainment goals included in the Roadmap.
Under House Bill 2626, the Legislature recognizes that one of the most important duties of the Student Achievement Council is to propose educational attainment goals to the Governor and Legislature and develop a ten-year roadmap to achieve those goals. The bill would declare that the statewide educational attainment goals required to meet the societal and economic needs of the future are as follows:
- All adults in Washington ages twenty-five to forty-four will have a high school diploma or equivalent by 2023; and
- At least seventy percent of Washington adults ages twenty-five to forty-four will have a postsecondary credential by 2023.
While this bill has not yet been scheduled for a public hearing, we anticipate that will happen as early as next week.
