On Sunday, January 28th, 2018, our deputy director of the Education Division at SBCTC, Jim Crabbe, passed away from a heart attack.
Jan Yoshiwara, our executive director, writes:
“This is sudden and a shock for his family and for all of us. Jim was a long time, well respected colleague and friend here at the State Board as well as the college system and will be missed by many. Jim made his mark in the system. He was instrumental in putting workforce education on the map for us and positioning our colleges as the state’s primary workforce education provider.”
Jim’s family has set up a scholarship fund in his name and would prefer donations to this scholarship in his memory instead of flowers.

South Puget Sound Community College’s Foundation has graciously offered to manage the funds. Students at all community and technical colleges will be eligible to apply. While the criteria will be worked out with Jim’s family, one possibility is to add a scholarship to the All Washington Academic Team awards in Jim’s name for a student pursuing a workforce education degree.
